Updated: Apr 8

Menstruation remains a socially taboo topic. Women are still taught to keep it a secret from other people and to be discreet about it. Fortunately, women are speaking out more about their periods and menstrual health as times change.

The introduction of menstrual cups has been one of the biggest developments in the menstrual health sector. They are intended to be placed inside the vagina to gather menstrual fluid. Menstrual cups have grown in popularity recently as a more affordable and environmentally friendly substitute for conventional tampons and pads.

I've been using menstrual cups for a while, and I can say with confidence that they have had a positive impact on both my life and the environment. I'll talk about my own experience with menstrual cups in this blog, along with the reasons I think all women should use them. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that women can avoid cervical cancer by using these cups.

Menstrual Cups Save You Money

First off, I've saved a ton of money thanks to menstrual cups. Tampons and pads typically cost a woman between Rs. 9000 and Rs. 10,000 ($120) annually. Menstrual cups may seem pricey at first, but with the right maintenance, they can last up to ten years, saving you hundreds of dollars over time. Not only is this more cost-effective, but it also means that I don't have to worry about running out of supplies or making emergency trips to the store.

Secondly, menstrual cups are better for the environment. Tampons and pads create a lot of waste, with the average woman using up to 11,000 disposable menstrual products in her lifetime. These products take hundreds of years to decompose, contributing to the growing problem of plastic pollution.

The biggest advantage of using menstrual cups is that they’re eco-friendly. They’re reusable for up to ten years and you can significantly reduce the amount of waste you produce.By using a menstrual cup, I feel like I am doing my part to reduce my carbon footprint and protect the environment.

Menstrual Cups are More Convenient

Carrying menstrual cups in a small pouch is convenient. Additionally, they are easier to use than throwaway tampons and pads. You won't have to worry about running out of tampons or pads or how to get rid of them when you use a menstrual cup. Depending on your menstrual cycle, you can wear it for up to 12 hours, so you don't need to change it often as you go about your day.

Menstrual Cups are Healthier

Because menstrual cups are composed of medical-grade rubber or silicone, they are free of dangerous chemicals that could irritate skin or trigger allergic reactions. They also prevent the vaginal area from drying out because they do not absorb the natural vaginal moisture, which lowers the risk of infection.

In addition to these advantages, menstrual cups have enhanced my entire menstrual experience.

Menstrual cups are easy to use and comfortable once you get the hang of it, unlike tampons and pads that can be painful to wear. Additionally, because they hold more fluid, I can go longer between changes, which is particularly useful when I have a busy schedule or am traveling. Here is a solution if you've been wondering how to get rid of the smell from your menstrual cup.

Do your homework, speak with other women who use menstrual cups, and give them a try if you're thinking about making the switch. In addition to taking care of ourselves, using a menstrual cup helps to create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable world. As a Cupvert, see you soon!
